The sentence has the vocabulary word “fatigued“. You may not know what “fatigued” means. But the context clues – the words around it – help you make a good guess. The words “extremely“, “exhausted“, “long hike” and “fell asleep” indicate the person was very tired physically after walking a long distance. So “fatigued” likely means something similar to tired or lacking energy based on the contextual words.
