Starfish and Their Babies
Starfish have interesting ways of making babies. Some starfish release eggs and sperm into the water. These join to make tiny starfish larvae. The larvae float in the water and grow slowly. Other starfish keep their eggs safe under their arms. When the eggs hatch, the baby starfish look like tiny adults.
Some starfish can even split their bodies to make new starfish. This is called asexual reproduction. Starfish babies are very small and must grow a lot to become adult starfish.
