Elapsed time is the amount of time that passes between the start of an event and its end. It's how long something takes from beginning to end.

Think about watching a movie: if it starts at 4:00 PM and ends at 5:30 PM, the elapsed time is 1 hour and 30 minutes. We use elapsed time every day to plan activities, measure how long things take, and manage our schedules.

Understanding elapsed time helps you answer questions like:

  • How long is my soccer practice?
  • How much time until dinner?
  • How long did I sleep last night?
