"How tall are giraffes?" asked Noah. "Giraffes are the tallest land animals in the world," replied his teacher Ms. Lee. "The male giraffes can grow over 18 feet tall! That's even taller than our school." Noah's eyes grew wide. "Wow, that tall?! How do they reach and eat leaves so high up in the trees?" "Excellent question," said Ms. Lee. "Giraffes have very long necks to reach leaves that are 20 feet above the ground. And their tongues are about 20 inches long too, which helps them grab tasty leaves." Ms. Lee continued, "Plus, giraffes live on the African savanna where acacia trees have yummy leaves at the very top." Noah asked, "I wonder if it's hard for predators to catch them since they're so tall?" "Good observation. Yes, their height helps giraffes watch for predators like lions and their spotted brown fur helps them hide."
