Turtles live in many different places. Some turtles live on land in forests, deserts, or grasslands. These are called tortoises. Many turtles live in freshwater like ponds, lakes, and rivers. They swim and hunt for food in the water but come out to bask in the sun. Sea turtles live in oceans and only come to land to lay eggs. Some turtles can live both on land and in water. These are called semi-aquatic turtles.
Turtles have special features that help them live in their homes, like webbed feet for swimming or strong legs for walking on land.
