Three ways to use Workybooks — pick what fits.
Conjunctions are the glue that holds sentences together, and students begin learning them as early as first grade. In early grades, children practice basic coordinating conjunctions like and, but, or, so, and because to join simple ideas. As they progress through grades 2 and 3, they encounter subordinating conjunctions such as because, although, and while, learning to show cause, contrast, and time. By grades 4 and 5, students work with correlative conjunctions (both/and, either/or) and more complex subordinating conjunctions, combining sentences to express nuanced relationships.
Our resources cover all four subtopics: coordinating conjunctions, subordinating conjunctions, correlative conjunctions, and frequently used conjunctions. Activities include sentence combining, identifying conjunctions in context, and using conjunctions to create compound and complex sentences. Related concepts such as sentence structure, compound sentences, and complex sentences are naturally integrated. Teachers will find no-prep, scaffolded materials that build from simple to sophisticated usage across the K-5 range.
This hub makes it easy to differentiate across a mixed-ability classroom. Use the simplest worksheets for intervention or first-grade introduction, and the more advanced activities for upper-grade small groups or independent practice. The printable resources work well for literacy centers, homework, or whole-group instruction, while digital versions are perfect for technology stations or remote learning. Teachers can select resources by grade level or skill focus, using them for assessment, review, or as a quick no-prep lesson. The variety of formats supports different instructional settings: whole group, small groups, centers, independent practice, and intervention.
These resources align with Common Core Language Standards across grades 1 through 5, focusing on using conjunctions to produce and expand simple, compound, and complex sentences at each grade level.
