About these Conjunctions worksheets and activities

Conjunctions are the glue that holds sentences together, and students begin learning them as early as first grade. In early grades, children practice basic coordinating conjunctions like and, but, or, so, and because to join simple ideas. As they progress through grades 2 and 3, they encounter subordinating conjunctions such as because, although, and while, learning to show cause, contrast, and time. By grades 4 and 5, students work with correlative conjunctions (both/and, either/or) and more complex subordinating conjunctions, combining sentences to express nuanced relationships.

Our resources cover all four subtopics: coordinating conjunctions, subordinating conjunctions, correlative conjunctions, and frequently used conjunctions. Activities include sentence combining, identifying conjunctions in context, and using conjunctions to create compound and complex sentences. Related concepts such as sentence structure, compound sentences, and complex sentences are naturally integrated. Teachers will find no-prep, scaffolded materials that build from simple to sophisticated usage across the K-5 range.
