About this worksheet

Comparing Fractions is an educational worksheet designed to help students practice and reinforce their understanding of fraction comparisons. This interactive and printable worksheet consists of two pages filled with various exercises that challenge students to compare fractions using the symbols <, >, or =. The first page contains six questions, including both numerical comparisons and visual representations of fractions. Students are asked to determine the relationship between given fractions and fill in the appropriate symbol.

The second page of the worksheet continues with two more questions that combine visual and numerical comparisons. In these exercises, students are presented with colored-in fraction representations and are asked to compare them with given numerical fractions. This approach helps students connect visual fraction models with their numerical representations, reinforcing their conceptual understanding. Throughout the worksheet, students are encouraged to think critically about fraction relationships and develop their skills in comparing fractional values.

What will your child learn through this worksheet?

  • How to compare fractions using the symbols <, >, and =
  • Visual representation and interpretation of fractions
  • Connecting numerical fractions with their visual models
  • Developing critical thinking skills in fraction relationships

Learning Outcomes

Cognitive

  • Students will accurately compare at least 80% of the given fraction pairs using the correct symbol (<, >, or =) within the allotted time.
  • Given visual representations of fractions, students will correctly match them to their numerical equivalents in at least 7 out of 8 cases.

Psychomotor

  • Students will demonstrate proper use of a pencil or pen to fill in the comparison symbols and color in fraction representations neatly within the designated spaces.
  • Students will accurately shade or color fraction models to represent given fractional values in at least 3 out of 4 instances.

Affective

  • Students will show increased confidence in comparing fractions by attempting all questions on the worksheet without hesitation.
  • Students will demonstrate a positive attitude towards fraction comparisons by engaging in self-correction and seeking clarification when needed.

Interpersonal/Social

  • Students will effectively communicate their reasoning for fraction comparisons when discussing answers with peers or the teacher.
  • Students will demonstrate respect for others' problem-solving approaches by listening attentively during class discussions about fraction comparisons.

3.NF.A.3.d

Compare two fractions with the same numerator or the same denominator by reasoning about their size. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two fractions refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with the symbols >, =, or <, and justify the conclusions, e.g., by using a visual fraction model.
