Prokaryotic vs. Eukaryotic Cells Cut and Paste Sorting Activity preview and details

About this worksheet

This prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells cut and paste activity gets students physically sorting their way to a solid understanding of the two basic cell types. Students cut out 12 cards, decide whether each one describes a prokaryotic or eukaryotic cell (or an organism made of them), and glue it into the correct column on the sorting mat.

The card set is deliberately mixed: real organisms students recognize (bacteria, an oak tree, a mushroom, E. coli in your gut, a paramecium) alongside key structural features (cell with no nucleus, cell with mitochondria, DNA floating in the cytoplasm). Sorting both kinds of cards pushes students to connect structure to classification instead of memorizing a list.

What’s included (3 pages):

  • Two-column sorting mat with Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic columns
  • 12 cut-out cards with dashed cut lines
  • Complete answer key showing every card correctly sorted

Perfect for: interactive notebooks, science centers and stations, kinesthetic learners, review before a cells quiz, or sub plans in grades 6–8 life science. Supports NGSS MS-LS1-2. Pairs perfectly with our Prokaryotic vs. Eukaryotic Venn Diagram and Bacterial Cell Labeling worksheets. Just print, cut, and sort.
