Where Animals Live

Open class with a quick Science Spotlight that connects animals to the places they live. Students read four short stories — about a camel, a fish, a lion, and an octopus — name the habitat each animal lives in, and then decide whether that habitat is on land or in the water.

The scenarios describe each habitat with clues but never name it, so children infer the habitat from the word bank rather than copying it. A careful, honest detail carries the thinking: the pond is fresh water while the ocean is salty water — the real difference between the two — so students reason from evidence instead of guessing.
