About this game

Fraction Ordering Adventure is an interactive ordering game for Grade 4 math students. Players arrange five fractions from smallest to largest across three question sets. The first set builds understanding of unit fractions with unlike denominators (1/8, 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, 3/4). The second set reinforces ordering fractions with like denominators (2/10 through 9/10). The third set combines fractions with like denominators and the whole number 1 (1/5 through 4/5 and 1). With a friendly hills theme and simple 'Put each list in the right order' instructions, the game helps students compare fraction sizes, recognize that a larger denominator means smaller parts, and strengthen number sense for fractions on a number line.
Curriculum

Common Core standards covered

3.NF.A.3.d

Compare two fractions with the same numerator or the same denominator by reasoning about their size. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two fractions refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with the symbols >, =, or <, and justify the conclusions, e.g., by using a visual fraction model.

4.NF.A.2

Compare two fractions with different numerators and different denominators, e.g., by creating common denominators or numerators, or by comparing to a benchmark fraction such as 1/2. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two fractions refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with symbols >, =, or <, and justify the conclusions, e.g., by using a visual fraction model.
