Heroes for Freedom: Malala Yousafzai

Malala Yousafzai, girls' education, Nobel Peace Prize, Taliban, children's rights

Malala Yousafzai was born in Pakistan in 1997. She grew up loving school and believed that all children, especially girls, should have the right to education. However, when Malala was young, a group called the Taliban took control of her region. They said girls were not allowed to go to school.

Malala didn't think this was fair. Even though she was just a child, she began speaking out for girls' education. She wrote a blog for the BBC about life under Taliban rule and was featured in a documentary. Malala became famous for her bravery, but this also made her a target.

On October 9, 2012, when Malala was 15, she was shot by the Taliban on her way to school. Amazingly, she survived and continued to fight for education and children's rights. In 2014, at just 17 years old, Malala became the youngest person ever to win the Nobel Peace Prize. She continues to work for children's education around the world, showing that young people can make a big difference.
