About this worksheet

Density Vocabulary in One Page: Context Clues

Before students can calculate density or explain why things float, they need the words. This one-page activity introduces density, mass, volume, and buoyancy through four quick scenarios (a heavy lead block, a balance, a measuring cup, a beach ball popping up). Students read each sentence, use the clues around the underlined word, and circle the best meaning. Print it as a bell-ringer, morning work, or a sub-plan slot.

What's Included

  • 1 student page: 4 illustrated context-clue cards, each with three answer choices
  • 1 teacher key page with the correct meaning for every term
  • Letter-size PDF, no prep

How It Helps You Teach

  • Front-loads the four words students need for the rest of a TEKS 6.6D unit
  • The distractors target the classic mix-ups head-on - density vs. volume, mass vs. volume, and the "heavy = dense" misconception
  • Takes only a few minutes, so it fits at the start of class without eating into the lesson

Pair It With

Part of a Density set: Context Clues, Inferences, Science in the News (why the world's biggest iceberg floated), Science Sort (Sink or Float?), and a 6-passage Reading in Science with worked density calculations. Check out our library for the rest.

Standards: TEKS 6.6D. Part of the Daily Science series by Workybooks.
