About this worksheet
Equal parts fractions worksheet that builds the idea every fraction depends on: parts must be the same size. Across three student pages, learners partition shapes themselves, count equal parts in pattern block shapes, and shade two fractions to decide whether they show the same amount.
What's inside (3 student pages + answer key)
- Page 1 – Draw equal parts: Students divide a rectangle into 4 equal parts and a square into 6 equal parts, shade the parts named, and write the fraction shaded and not shaded. A tip suggests 2 rows of 3 or 3 rows of 2.
- Page 2 – Count equal parts: A hexagon made of 6 equal triangles and a trapezoid made of 3. Students write both fractions, noticing that shaded parts don't have to touch.
- Page 3 – Equivalent or not: Same-size pizzas (2/4 and 1/2) and brownies (3/8 and 1/4). Students shade each fraction and circle equivalent or not equivalent.
Standards: CCSS 3.NF.A.1 (fraction a/b as a parts of b equal parts), CCSS 3.G.A.2 (partition shapes into parts with equal areas), and CCSS 3.NF.A.3.B (recognize simple equivalent fractions using a visual model).
Why teachers love it: Self-contained problem cards, a draw → count → compare arc, and pattern block shapes that connect to hands-on math centers. Compact answer key included. Print-and-go.
