Guess the State: The West Region (Part 1)

Turn your West region lesson into a fun state guessing game! In this one-page worksheet, third graders read short "I am..." riddles, find each mystery state on a real map, circle its name, and write it on the line. It is part 1 of 3 in our Guess the State set for the West region.

This sheet has 4 riddles for Alaska, Hawaii, California, and Washington. Each riddle gives three short clues. Most clues use the map and directions, like "Utah is to my east" or "Oregon is to my north," so students practice reading a map with cardinal directions. The last clue is a fun fact, like a famous city, lake, or park, that helps the state stick in their memory. Students choose from three state names, and the wrong choices are real neighbors, so they have to check the map.
