About this worksheet
Mixed numbers worksheet for grade 4 with a visual model beside every problem, so converting, adding, and subtracting mixed numbers stays anchored to wholes and parts. Three pages follow a convert → add → subtract arc with short word problems and real units.
What's inside (3 student pages + answer key)
- Page 1 – Convert: 7/4 of pizza shown as circles cut into fourths (write the mixed number); 2 1/3 granola bars shown as bars in thirds (write the improper fraction). Hints prompt counting full wholes first.
- Page 2 – Add: 1 1/4 + 1 2/4 miles and 2 3/8 + 1 4/8 cups with stacked bar models. Add the wholes, then the parts.
- Page 3 – Subtract with regrouping: 3 1/4 − 1 3/4 yards and 2 2/6 − 5/6 liters. Students cross out what is taken away and break one whole into parts when there aren't enough fourths or sixths.
Standards: CCSS 4.NF.B.3.B (decompose fractions and mixed numbers using visual models), CCSS 4.NF.B.3.C (add and subtract mixed numbers with like denominators), and CCSS 4.NF.B.3.D (solve word problems involving fractions with like denominators).
Why teachers love it: Regrouping is taught on the model, not by rule, and the answer key shows both the regrouping and the improper-fraction route for each subtraction. Print-and-go.
