About this worksheet
Multiples of unit fractions worksheet that builds fraction-times-whole-number from the ground up: jumps of a unit fraction on a number line, then groups of unit pieces, then a model students draw themselves. Every answer is written as an improper fraction and a mixed number.
What's inside (3 student pages + answer key)
- Page 1 – Jumps of a unit fraction: A frog jumping 1/4 m five times and 1/3 cup of juice for 7 days. Count jumps on a marked number line; write 5 × 1/4 = 5/4 = 1 1/4.
- Page 2 – Groups of a fraction: 3 batches of 2/5 cup and 4 walks of 3/8 mile. Count unit pieces in all; complete 3 × 2/5 = 6 × 1/5 = 6/5.
- Page 3 – Draw your model: 6 pancakes at 1/4 cup and 5 days of 2/3 mile. Blank number lines with ticks, then the equation and answer.
Standards: CCSS 4.NF.B.4.A (understand a fraction a/b as a multiple of 1/b), CCSS 4.NF.B.4.B (understand a multiple of a/b as a multiple of 1/b), and CCSS 4.NF.B.4.C (solve word problems involving multiplication of a fraction by a whole number).
Why teachers love it: Pages map one-to-one onto the three parts of 4.NF.B.4, and the key shows completed number lines. Print-and-go.
