Season Detectives

Season Detectives turns your third graders into weather investigators! Students graph one town's temperature and rainy or snowy days across all four seasons, then read their bar graphs to crack the seasonal pattern.

In Step 1, students use a data table to color two scaled bar graphs—temperature and rainy/snowy days for winter, spring, summer, and fall. In Step 2, they answer detective questions (hottest season? wettest season?), match weather clues to the right season using a word bank, and finish with a “Detective's Conclusion” that asks them to explain their thinking using the data.

This no-prep printable supports NGSS 3-ESS2-1 (representing data to describe the typical weather of a season) while building scaled bar graph skills from CCSS Math 3.MD.B.3—a natural science-and-math crossover.
