Solid, Liquid, or Gas

Eight illustrated cards, three bins. Students classify everyday things - a brick, the air in a balloon, juice in a glass, a spoon, milk in a bowl, an ice cube, the scent from a perfume spray, and a drop of water - as a solid, a liquid, or a gas. To decide, they compare each item's shape, volume, and particle behavior. It is the perfect capstone for a states-of-matter unit and works as a print-and-go sort or a cut-apart station.
