Lily helping her brother and friend.
Lily peered out the window at the gray, rainy day. Her little brother, Leo, was trying to build a tower with his blocks, but the pieces kept toppling over. He let out a frustrated cry. Lily sighed, putting down her crayons. "Here, Leo," she said, gently kneeling beside him. "Let's try stacking them a different way." She showed him how to balance the blocks carefully, and a small smile appeared on his face as the tower grew taller. Lily’s mom watched from the doorway, her heart swelling with pride at her daughter's patient and helpful nature.
Later that afternoon, Lily was working on her science project. She had to build a model of the solar system. The planets were proving to be a challenge. Her friend Sam was coming over to help, but he called just before he arrived. His voice sounded anxious. "I don't think I can help, Lily. I just can't get my own homework done. My brain feels all muddled."
"Don't worry about it!" Lily said warmly. "We can work on your homework first. My project isn't due until tomorrow, and I've already done most of the work. Besides, two brains are better than one!"
Her generous offer made Sam feel much better. When he arrived, Lily put her own work aside and helped him with his math problems. She explained the steps slowly and clearly. It took a while, but soon Sam’s brow was smooth, and he was smiling again.
The next day at school, Lily turned in her project. The teacher said she was impressed with her diligent work. Lily felt a sense of pride. The best part, though, was seeing how happy and confident Sam was after she helped him.
