My Temperature Week

Let students gather their own weather data. This Grade 3 journal has students record the temperature in degrees Fahrenheit each day from Monday to Friday, building a real five-day dataset they can graph and analyze next.

A scripted thermometer reference teaches students how to read a temperature scale, and a simple table captures the day, the temperature, and the weather in one or two words. A closing prompt asks students to notice whether the week got warmer, cooler, or stayed the same — the bridge to graphing and interpretation.

Aligned to NGSS 3-ESS2-1 as the data-collection step (representing data begins with gathering it), this journal makes the abstract idea of a dataset concrete and hands-on.
