About this worksheet
Travel from the Arctic to the tropics with this one-page map worksheet on the biomes of North America! Students read a short passage, study a labeled map of the continent, and write the biome for six lettered places.
The passage explains that North America stretches from the Arctic Ocean almost to the equator, so it has many biomes. In northern Alaska and Canada, the tundra has frozen ground called permafrost. South of it, a wide band of taiga covers Canada. The Great Plains in the middle of the United States are a grassland, and the eastern United States has a temperate forest where trees drop their leaves each fall. The southwestern United States has hot deserts, like the Sonoran Desert, and Central America has tropical rainforests near the equator. The large map is labeled with Alaska, Canada, the United States, Mexico, Central America, three oceans, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Arctic Circle. In the first activity, students match each lettered place to the passage and write its biome from a word bank. In the second activity, students decide if three sentences about the map are true or false. The sheet is written to Texas TEKS 7.12B and also fits NGSS MS-ESS2-6.
