Mapping Our World

Mapping Our World builds the geography map skills every upper-elementary student needs. Using a clear world map, students label the seven continents and five oceans, then explore how the equator and prime meridian divide Earth into hemispheres.

In Step 1, students use two word banks to write the name of each numbered continent and ocean on a labeled world map. In Step 2, they use the marked equator and prime meridian to answer questions about the Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western Hemispheres, then finish with a “Map Detective” prompt that asks them to place a continent in its two hemispheres and explain how they know.

This no-prep printable strengthens core geography and map-reading skills—continents, oceans, the equator, the prime meridian, and hemispheres. It aligns with the National Geography Standards (using maps and geographic representations) and the C3 Framework (D2.Geo.2.3-5), and is perfect for a geography unit, a social studies center, or a map-skills review.
