Grade 3 The Founding Fathers

Introduce your third graders to the leaders who helped start our country! In this one-page worksheet, students read a short passage about the Founding Fathers, write the first letter of each leader's last name next to five facts, then fill in three blanks with a word bank.

The passage introduces four Founding Fathers. George Washington led the army in the American Revolution and became the first President. Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Benjamin Franklin was a writer and inventor. James Madison helped plan the Constitution, so he is called the Father of the Constitution. Students also learn that the faces of Washington and Jefferson are carved on Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. In the first activity, students decide which leader matches each fact by writing W, J, F, or M in a box, which keeps the task quick and easy to check. The word bank fill-in then locks in key terms like Declaration and President. Everything students need to answer is right on the page, so it works well for independent practice.
