About this worksheet

Evaluating Experiments and Designs Worksheet (Grade 6 Science, TEKS 6.2D)

Teach grade 6 students how scientists and engineers judge their own work. This one-page reading and activity sheet gives a short checklist for a fair experiment and a short checklist for a good design, then puts both to work.

What's Inside

  • Two cards: how to evaluate an experiment (one variable, same conditions, repeated trials) and how to evaluate a design (criteria and constraints)
  • Activity 1: Students read about two student experiments and circle the problem with each test
  • Activity 2: Students check three lunch cooler designs against the criteria and the constraint, then circle the best design
  • A visual answer key with answers marked in red

How Teachers Use It

Use it before students plan their own investigation or design challenge, or as practice for TEKS 6.2D. Every term is taught on the page. The sheet takes about 10 minutes and prints clearly in black and white.

This worksheet is part of the Reading in Science series for grade 6. It supports TEKS 6.2D: evaluate experimental and engineering designs. Pair it with the other data analysis sheets in the series to build a short unit on scientific practices.

Why It Works

Each sheet teaches the key terms in plain words first, then asks students to use only what the page taught. Activities stay at the circle and write-a-letter level, so students build confidence while the answer key lets teachers check work fast. The clean layout is also easy to project for a whole-class review.
