Types of Forces - Inference Activity preview and details

About this worksheet

Move students from reading to reasoning. In this one-page activity, each card describes a real situation, and students use the clues in the text to figure out which force is acting — then underline the words that helped them decide. A great way to deepen understanding of gravity, normal, magnetic, and applied forces while building a core reading skill. Ideal as a daily bell-ringer, morning work, sub plan, or reading center.

What's Included

  • 4 illustrated clue cards, each with a short scenario and three choices
  • A circle-and-underline format that asks students to justify their thinking
  • Scenarios covering gravity, the normal force, magnetism, and applied forces
  • A full teacher answer key with the supporting clue words for every card

How It Helps You Teach

Use it partway through a forces unit, once students know the basics, to check whether they can identify a force from the way an object behaves. Because the key lists the exact clue words behind each answer, you can turn any card into a quick class discussion about evidence and reasoning. It mirrors the inference questions students meet on state reading tests. Print and go in 5-10 minutes, no prep.
