The Brahmaputra starts as an icy stream in the mighty Himalayas in a region called Tibet. It flows east for a long time, collecting water from many smaller streams. As it leaves the mountains, it enters a place called Assam in India. Here, the river becomes very wide and powerful.

After a long journey, the river enters Bangladesh. Here, it is given a new name: the Jamuna. At the end of their journey, they create a huge land area called a delta, which is a very important and fertile place.
