Look up! What do you see in the sky? Most days, we see the bright sun. The sun is a big, hot star far, far away. When the sun is in the sky, it is daytime. The sun gives us light and warmth. We can play outside and see everything clearly.
But what happens when the sun goes away? As the day ends, the sun starts to look lower in the sky. Then, it seems to go down and out of sight. This is called sunset. After the sun sets, the sky gets darker and darker. Soon, it is nighttime!
When it is nighttime, we can see new things in the sky. If the clouds are gone, you might see the moon! The moon can look like a big, bright circle, or sometimes just a tiny sliver. It shines at night. Many tiny, sparkly lights also appear in the dark sky. These are the stars! They are like tiny diamonds twinkling far, far away.
Every single day, the sun comes up in the morning. This is called sunrise. And every single evening, the sun goes down. Then, the moon and stars come out to shine. These are special patterns that happen all the time. They are predictable! That means we can know they will happen again and again.
We can watch the sky to see these amazing patterns. We can see the sun come and go. We can see the moon and stars appear at night. It’s fun to observe the sky and learn about our Earth’s place in the universe!
