Antioxidants are special substances that protect our cells from damage! They work like tiny shields inside our bodies, defending our cells from harmful molecules called free radicals.

Think of antioxidants as your body's defense team! They come from the foods we eat, especially colorful fruits and vegetables. Different antioxidants have different jobs, but they all work together to keep your body healthy and strong.

Types of Antioxidants

1

Vitamin C

Found in citrus fruits, helps protect cells and heal wounds

2

Vitamin E

Found in nuts and seeds, protects cell membranes

3

Beta-Carotene

Found in carrots and sweet potatoes, converts to Vitamin A

4

Selenium

A mineral found in Brazil nuts, helps make special proteins

How Antioxidants Work

Antioxidants work by neutralizing harmful molecules called free radicals. Free radicals are unstable molecules that can damage cells in your body. This damage is called oxidative stress.

Think of free radicals as tiny wrecking balls bouncing around inside your body. They're missing an electron, which makes them unstable. They try to steal electrons from your healthy cells, damaging them in the process. Antioxidants are like generous friends who donate their extra electrons to free radicals, making them stable and harmless!
