When a ball is at the top of a ramp, it's not moving. However, because of its height, it has potential energy. This is stored energy that an object has because of its position. The higher the ramp, the more potential energy the ball has. Think of it like a battery being charged—the higher you place the ball, the more energy you are "storing" in it.

As soon as you let the ball go, gravity takes over and pulls it down the ramp. As the ball starts to move, its potential energy begins to change into kinetic energy. Kinetic energy is the energy of motion. The faster the ball rolls, the more kinetic energy it has. As the ball rolls down the ramp, its height decreases, so its potential energy decreases. At the same time, its speed increases, so its kinetic energy increases. When the ball reaches the bottom of the ramp, it's moving at its fastest speed and has the most kinetic energy.
