Yeast, a type of tiny living thing, also uses anaerobic respiration. When yeast makes bread, it eats the sugar in the dough and, without oxygen, it makes a little energy and two other things: alcohol and carbon dioxide gas. The carbon dioxide gas is what makes bread dough rise and get fluffy! That's why yeast is so important for baking.
